Love Under an Umbrella

Ivan + Elise

Do you remember your mom saying, "A little rain never hurt anyone?"  That's just the attitude that Ivan and Elise took when it came to their wedding day at Dresser Mansion on March 9th.  Although there was a chance of rain forecast, we were all keeping our fingers crossed that it would pass us by.  The groom really wanted an outside wedding - and ladies, we know it's not all about what we want!  And, if you've ever been to the Dresser Mansion, you know they have a beautiful outdoor setting.  So I waited while the bride and groom text back and forth trying to decide what to do.  After much debate, the groom won!

As I began to decorate the arch, it started to sprinkle.  It's a good thing I happen to have a Bridal Garden rain jacket - I don't need it very often but it's nice to have!  Lucky for the bride and groom, the weather held just long enough.  Despite a few sprinkles, they were married outside, under a lighted arch adorned with hydrangea, pale pink roses, and greenery.  The wedding was simply gorgeous.  And with all the love flowing, no one minded a few raindrops.

Congratulations, Ivan and Elise!  May you happily weather together any rainstorm that life sends your way!

Happy Anniversary, Cara & Erik!

OK, I am the first to admit that keeping up with a blog is not one of my strengths!  But this week when I saw Cara's Facebook posting celebrating her and Erik's 3rd anniversary, I knew I had to get busy already!

Meet Cara and Erik...

A little over 3 years ago I had the privilege to meet this fabulous couple.  Often the planning meetings include only the bride and perhaps her mother or best friend.  Rarely do I also get to meet the groom.  I was so impressed by this pair - how loving they were and how well they worked together.  They respected each other's opinions, worked as a team and were totally engaged in the process.    I knew it was going to be a wonderful wedding!

The wedding took place at Dresser Mansion in Tulsa, built in 1919 in the Italian Renaissance style.  This venue is unique and always provides a beautiful back drop to stunning photography.

Cara and Erik chose beautiful, vibrant colors for the wedding.  Her bouquet included orange dahlias, green hydrangea, hot pink gloriosa, twilight orange mokara orchid, and hot pink roses.  Lime green and other bright, colorful accents could be found throughout their wedding.

I just loved the colorful pomanders made of carnations and
hung on sheer ribbons that adorned the arch!ard a few years...

Fast forward a few years...

Cara and Erik find out they're expecting...

Twins!

(Did I mention I have a soft spot for twins?)

Happy Anniversary, Cara and Erik!

I am so happy to have been a part of your wedding day.  I enjoy seeing the pictures of your sweet babies grow up.  Congratulations on your beautiful family and wishing you many more years of love and happiness together!

Looking Back...with The Hendersons

This year I'm looking back over ten years as The Bridal Garden and re-visiting some of my favorite couples to see where they are now. Of course, one of my favorite brides, and first weddings to do, was for

my twin sister, Jeni!

Jeni (Young) and Dennis Henderson met through a mutual friend and went on a blind date...a scary thought! Frightening as a blind date might be, they were lucky - after only a few dates, they knew they were meant for each other. Jeni was attending USAO in Chickasaw at the time and it was a long commute each weekend to Tulsa, where Dennis lived and still works for the Salvation Army. But the trip was worth it!
After a few years of dating, Jeni and Dennis were married on June 6, 2002 at Tarp Chapel in Broken Arrow. Jeni's colors were shades of purples and her florals included purple roses, hydrangea, asparagus fern and had a garden feel. Purple linens with sheer florals topped the tables. After the wedding, they honeymooned in sunny Barbados.
After getting married they adopted their first "child" - a golden retriever named Brinkley. Three years later, in 2003, Bryce was born (Jeni went into labor just as her baby shower was about to begin!). Three years later, in 2006, Ben followed his big brother into the world. Keeping with the pattern of 3's and B's, three more years passed and sweet baby Baylea joined the Henderson family. Jeni was thrilled to have a girl and decided they were through having babies!

Ten years later the Hendersons are still going strong. Jeni is an award-winning National Board certified art teacher. Dennis continues his good works helping others at the Salvation Army. The boys are active in football, t-ball, and basketball and Jeni can't wait until Baylea is old enough to participate in dance and cheerleading. Now, they are all living...
happily ever after!

10 Years of Wedded Bliss

I can hardly believe it's true, but this year I'm proud to celebrate my 10th year as The Bridal Garden! Wow - looking back over the past ten years I remember so many life changes. While in college pursing a Bachelor's in Fine Arts, I started doing weddings for family members - including my brother, Mike, a U.S. Marine, and my twin sister, Jeni. Later, I started working as a graphic design artist in Tulsa. I began creating wedding florals part-time for friends. It was during this time that I met my wonderful husband, Donovan, through a friend at work. My friends and family started telling their friends and family about my blossoming flower business, and a seed was planted. In 2002, I officially formed The Bridal Garden. Ironically, 2002 was also the year that Donovan and I married! It was a year of life-long changes for me. The seed that was planted has now grown into a flourishing business that I love. Every day I get to be a part of helping create memories. I meet amazing people and witness their love for each other. Ten years has brought much joy, love, and laughter - including my beautiful daughters, Rachel and Marin. This year I'll be looking back at some of my favorite brides and grooms to see where they are now. To all my past clients, I'd love to hear where you are now! Go to my Facebook page and tell me your story. I love to hear from you! I hope you'll join me as I take a walk down memory lane.
